This is a stunning huipil/blouse from Zacualpa, Guatemala. I love the bold and powerful design.
Zacualpa daily huipil. It was hand woven on a back strap loom in two balanced panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The supplementary brocade across the shoulders features the “soumak” weaving technique, which produces a subtle herringbone pattern unique to Zacualpa.
This one has a particularly beautiful and more complex embroidery around the top.
measures 22 inches long and 30 inches across.
These are great year round. In the winter I wear them over a light sweater and they are super cozy.
