Fabulous oversized pompoms from Tenejapa, Chiapas. These are called borlas and of this size and quality they are quite rare. We adore them as decorative pieces but they are created as adornment to the vibrant and wonderful tarditional men's attire. They hang down from their hats. See last picture of an example of the traditional men's attire from this town
These represent hours of work and contain a lot of yarn!
Beautiful Guatemalita jade necklace accented by antique handmade Nigerian brass beads. The jade is called guatemalita. It is indigenous only to Guatemala. These beads are worked by Mayan artisans in the highlands of Guatemala, the design is our own. This is the most wonderful stone! I consider these to be a tremendous value particularly considering their rarity. 19.5 inches long. 736g For more fabulous beaded treasures check out the necklace section of our shop.
This fine Nebaj huipil is fabulous. Such tremendous design and creativity. Fine dense psychedelic embroidery on a solid black base. It was hand woven on a back strap loom in two black base panels made of a material call "aleman" in Guatemala. It is a rayon cotton mix and it is like nothing I've ever felt. Super soft and supple yet substantial. The panels are decorated with supplementary brocade featuring animal, bird and geometric motifs typical of Nebaj weavings. The complex intermingling of these motifs gives the overall design an abstract quality. The traditional collar design symbolizing the four cardinal directions is hand embroidered. This classic example is in very good condition
These are great year round. 28 inches wide by 21 inches long.
