Santo Tomás Chichicastenango fine cotton and silk huipil.
This beautiful pre 1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three black cotton base panels. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade, all in silk and cotton. Lovely shades of deep purple and orange. Gorgeous hues. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The decorative motifs are peonies. The sunburst collar is hand embroidered in cotton over velvet and unique to Chichicastenango huipiles. This beautiful huipil in very good condition. Please see the two areas of wear on one side of both the front and back.
Measures 35 wide x 28 long, a nice and wide one.
These are great year round. In the winter I wear them over a light sweater and they are cozy.
