These are very special pendants hand carved with hand tools by contemporary Mayan artisans. The workmanship is very lovely and unlike the carved jade that I saw anywhere else in Guatemala. the artisans are very sensitive to the jade that they are working with and carefully incorporate the grain and form of the stone into the design. They allow material to dictate the design to a larger degree.
Strung on a Tuareg leather cord. The jade is called guatemalita. It is indigenous only to Guatemala.
a the necklace measures 180" long.
