Zapoteco. 2848
This handmade pendant is reproductions of an ancient Zapotec pendant that were found in the 7th tomb of Monte Alban. The Zapotec are some of the native people of Oaxaca. The pendant represents a double plumed moon and serpent heads. It is poetry and cultural heritage.

The pendant is strung on handmade black jadee beads from Guatemala. All of the metal is sterling silver.

Pendiente de la luna con serpientes (núm. 140).

Caso, Alfonso, "Metales preciosos. This pendant has a hook, like the one seen on pectoral no. 167, indicating that it was hung from some object, perhaps an eagle's head, given the similarity we will see with numbers 113 and 139. The main part of the pendant consists of a lyre-shaped figure, which in Mexican codices represents the moon, except here it is double, with five rays emanating from it against a background of feathers. Four serpent heads hang from this moon figure, and a rattle must have been suspended from each of them, but unfortunately, the two on the left could not be found in the tomb.

Caso, Alfonso, "Precious Metals.
