These are my latest obsession. These come from Burkina Faso and are truly vintage. They ooze the sweet vibe of previous owners. This one is particularly deep indigo and a wonderful soft cotton.
They are great cool weather wraps, They work as big scarf/hood, they look fabulous as a throw for the couch and would be lovely table cloths. I have several of these and each is slightly different so check out this section of my shop for more, to compare.
It measures 74x42" not including the fringe.
As, I mentioned these are truly vintage and it is typical for them to come well worn, it is part of what makes them special. You can expect small holes and "chewed up" corners. If there is a major unsightly defect or the thing is on its last legs I will specify that, otherwise not. This one happens to be in excellent condition.
This beautiful post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three cotton base panels. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in cotton and silk. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The motif is a highly abstracted double headed eagle motif. The sunburst collar is hand embroidered in silk over velvet and unique to Chichicastenango huipiles. This beautiful huipil is in superb condition.
The embroidery is very finely done in silk and a high quality cotton floss. The motif is also very finely done. It is an ancient motif done in a very modern and to me almost edgy manner.
The double headed eagle in Mayan mythology represents the Great God with two faces, one looking to good and the other to evil, or to heaven and earth.
These are great year round. In the winter I wear them over a light sweater and they are cozy.
Measures approximately 33.5 x 28
