This poncho come from the very fashion conscious Zinacantan. Textiles are important here and the color motifs and even techniques appear to change dramatically every few years! This poncho has been handwoven of many colors and metallic thread and then hand-embroidered with the same in fabulous fanciful and sensual floral patterns.
This is an example of a style that is no longer used and very hard to come by now. Modern Zinacantan textiles are of a completely different color way.
The tassels are beautiful and quite impressive. The tassel strings are thick and beautiful macrame straps.
The fringe at the bottom is fine and hand twisted. A very time consuming endeavor!
These look lovely as wall hangings and can be simply hung with a dowel. I'll be happy to send along a dowel for displaying the poncho but shipping may be more than what is quoted here.
It measures 27 X 29" not including the tassels. This one is in excellent vintage condition
Gorgeous handmade and embroidered skirts from the Rabari tribe of Northern India. Very fine and expertly embroidered with cotton embroidery floss. Each of them has been made with such love and attention, representing weeks of work. The price does not reflect the value of these in my opinion.
These are from a tribe in Gujarat, India where the most festive and beautiful embroidery comes from.
The waist is adjustable with a drawstring with a maximum measurement of 34". Length is 34 inches. All cotton. For more great Banjara and Rabari skirts check out the skirt section of the shop!
