Vintage White Colotenango Hand-Woven Guatemala Huipil.

"The [Colotenango] huipil is short, relatively wide and is worn hanging loose outside the corte. The brocade often includes small, multi-colored diamonds or squares woven in a soumak technique". (Centro de Textiles Tradicionales Nim Po't, see nimpot.com) This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three cotton/rayon blend warp-striped base panels that are joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. This base fabric is called "aleman" and is prized for its softness and drape. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in typical Colotenango geometric designs. The center panel is wider and more heavily decorated. This fine huipil is in very good condition. This one is hard to let go! It is wonderful and older.

This has a very supple and luxurious drape- a pleasure to wear.

Makes a wonderful wall hanging and I'll be happy to provide the dowel if you ask for it.

These are great year round. In the winter I wear them over a light sweater and they are cozy.
