Santo Tomás Chichicastenango
This beautiful post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton base panels. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade, all in cotton. Lovely pastel shades. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The sunburst collar is hand embroidered in cotton over velvet and unique to Chichicastenango huipiles. This beautiful huipil in very good condition. Please note the stripes of discoloration that are as a result of some embroidery that has since been removed (the huipil was at some point made smaller and this was probably embroidery along the seam.)
Measures 32 wide x 24 long.
These are great year round. In the winter I wear them over a light sweater and they are cozy.
