Pinotepa Nacional Huipil. Purpura Caracol Snail Dye. Oaxaca, Mexico.

This is a gorgeous handwoven huipil from the Costa Chica of Oaxaca. The huipil is woven of hand spun cotton and the weave is a of traditional design. The purple color is a naturally derived from a labor intensive snail based dye. Huipiles from this region are difficult to come by and this is a fabulous example.

This was purchased from the artisan at asking price.
