This beautiful post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three cotton base panels. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in cotton and rayon. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The motif is a combination of the flowers and universal diamonds. The sunburst collar is hand embroidered in silk over velvet and unique to Chichicastenango huipiles. This beautiful huipil is in excellent condition.
The embroidery is very finely done in high quality cotton and rayon floss. The black is rayon and the slight sheen gives the embroidery depth and texture. The sunbust pattern around the neck has a bit of purple metallic.
These are great year round. In the winter I wear them over a light sweater and they are cozy.
Measures approximately 32 x 29
